In the world of maxillofacial and oral surgery, we often face the need to restore damaged tissue in the face or mouth. Traditionally, this restoration involves using the patient's own tissue, which surgeons carefully take from one part of the body and transplant to another where needed. This method ensures that the new tissue is fully compatible with the patient’s body and helps restore both function and appearance of the affected area.
However, this process can also encounter issues. Harvesting and transplanting the patient’s own tissue can sometimes lead to additional complications, such as pain at the donor site and, of course, a lengthy recovery. Fortunately, in recent years, advanced techniques that offer simpler and less invasive solutions have been gaining ground.
At GaiaCell, we use one of the most promising new methods involving special cells called mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). These cells are very special, as they can grow into various types of tissues needed to repair damaged parts of the face and oral cavity. Cell carriers are safe substances that do not harm the body and on which these cells can grow. By combining these cells and carriers, we can create new tissue that perfectly matches the patient's body and blends well with surrounding tissue.
With this innovative method, we can reduce the need for invasive surgical procedures and enable faster and less painful recovery. Additionally, we avoid complications related to tissue harvesting and offer patients a more effective and satisfactory solution for restoring your face or mouth.
MSC are multipotent cells that can differentiate into mesodermal cell lineages, such as adipocytes, osteocytes, and chondrocytes. MSC were initially isolated from bone marrow, but it is now known that they are found in almost all tissues (e.g., adipose tissue, umbilical cord, etc.). MSC have the ability to migrate to the site of injury in the body, where they can differentiate and replace damaged cells, as well as promote tissue regeneration. Additionally, they have the capacity for paracrine signaling and cell-to-cell communication by secreting various soluble factors and extracellular vesicles. In an inflammatory environment, they act immunomodulatory on different cells of the innate and adaptive immune systems, which is one of their main properties exploited for therapeutic purposes.
They can be used for local tissue regeneration or for their systemic effects.
It is important to know that PRP treatment is not the same as our therapy. PRP treatment uses only 1 to 3 stem cells, while our therapy uses a dosed amount of 15 to 20 million stem cells.
