A bone graft, shaped precisely and made to measure

A service by IBI SA which, in accordance with the Medical Device Regulation (EU) 2017/745 on custom-made devices, enables the production of bone grafts tailored precisely to the anatomy of the individual patient — designed for oral and maxillofacial use, with a precise fit between the graft and the insertion site.

01 Physician's request

You send the patient's and physician's first and last name along with a short description of the clinical case.

02 Digital data

An .STL file is attached; if this is not available, a DICOM file (CT scan) for feasibility assessment.

03 Custom production

Based on the data, IBI SA prepares the shape and produces the custom graft, and we take care of delivery.

Technology that mimics natural bone

Bone regeneration requires more than simply filling a bone defect mechanically. SmartBone® is designed as a three-dimensional scaffold that enables cell colonization, blood vessel ingrowth and gradual remodeling into new vital bone.

More about SmartBone® technology

The composite technology combines three key components:
  • Mineral bone matrix
The natural mineral structure provides a three-dimensional scaffold with a microarchitecture similar to human bone and enables effective osteoconduction.
  • Bioresorbable polymers
Special bioresorbable polymers improve the mechanical stability of the bone substitute, increase resistance to loads and maintain volume during the initial healing phases. After implantation they gradually degrade.
  • Collagen fragments
The collagen components improve the hydrophilicity of the material and promote cell adhesion and colonization. This creates a favorable microenvironment for the start of the regeneration process.

  Biomimetic microstructure SmartBone® is designed to mimic healthy human bone as closely as possible. Its open, interconnected porosity enables:
  • effective blood infiltration,
  • colonization by osteogenic cells,
  • blood vessel ingrowth,
  • gradual remodeling into vital bone.
Unlike many natural bone substitutes, SmartBone® provides a homogeneous microstructure, uniform porosity, density and mechanical properties, which contributes to greater predictability of clinical outcomes. Mechanical performance during surgery Surgical adaptability is one of SmartBone®'s key advantages. SHAPING VIDEO   High hydrophilicity for a faster biological response SmartBone®'s microcomposition enables rapid blood absorption after implantation. The resulting blood clot represents the first step in the regenerative process, as it triggers complex biological signaling that enables cell migration, angiogenesis and the onset of osseointegration. VIDEO Support for natural osseointegration After implantation, SmartBone® acts as a temporary three-dimensional scaffold. The regeneration process takes place in several phases:
  1. rapid impregnation with blood,
  2. formation of an initial blood clot,
  3. colonization by stem and osteogenic cells,
  4. gradual degradation of the bioresorbable polymers,
  5. formation of new bone tissue,
  6. vascularization,
  7. complete integration with the surrounding bone.
